MOSCOW, Dec 28 (PRIME) -- The Russian Finance Ministry will decide on support of diamond producer ALROSA in January 2021, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseyev told PRIME in an interview released on Monday.
"We have received a presidential order after a request from the head of the Sakha (Yakutia) republic (to support the company by purchasing additional diamonds to state coffers),” Moiseyev said.
“We have recently reported to the president of the Russian Federation that we are monitoring the market and plan to decide on the need of state support at the beginning of the first quarter of 2021."
Diamond prices will grow by 5–10% in 2021, while market recovery started at the end of 2020, the official said.
According to Moiseyev, ALROSA is studying the market of artificial diamonds but has no plans to enter it. "ALROSA is always monitoring the synthetic gem market, but no agreements to produce artificial diamonds are planned," the official said.
